Tipping and Sensitivities and Social Pressure †MyAssignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about the Tipping and Sensitivities and Social Pressure. Answer: Introduction: Tipping in restaurants is the new trend in the western countries. America is one of the states experiencing a significant change. Some hotels such as Carmel Kitchen are working to entirely banish tipping while others located in Tampa Bay are increasing the tipping rates (Reiley, 2016). Tipping is a trend because it is experiencing numerous changes such improved tip amount and its banishment as well. It began in the mid20th century and involved both customers and servers. It is gaining popularity in the country because it is impacting a significant effect on the current and future state of hotels. In the mid20th century, tipping was only about 10% of the total billing price. However, a significant turning point has occurred such as an increment of the tipped amount and new technologies. Harold Seltzer comments that in Tampa Bay restaurants and steak outs, the average tipping amount is about 20% ((Reiley, 2016). Improvement of technology has also impacted the tipping trend in different ways. For instance, use of chip-card technology in Tampa Bay has encouraged more tipping. The encouragement is because the technology has incorporated tipping prices together with the actual bills allowing a customer to choose their tip freely. Tipping is also dependent on factors such as the price and quality of services. Better quality motivates more tipping in comparison to poor services. From a personal point of view, I would advise on continued tipping as it influences the performance of workers. In regions such as Tampa Bay, the tipping order may rise to 30% in the coming years. This speculation is as a result of the rising tipping amount from 10% since 1980 to 20% in the 21st century. However, the current minimum wage law may discourage tipping by customers (Dewald, 2017). Due to market growth in this country, more people will become economically stabilized, enabling them to contribute more tips in the future. However, hotels that will be affected by the new law may decide to eliminate the tipping service due to the increased cost of production and pressure of wage provision. There exist both positive and negative impacts of this trend. Some customers tip depending on the appearance of the servers (Lynn McCall, 2016). Those with an impression that does not please the customer may receive fewer tips in comparison with the good-looking servers. Such discrimination may affect the performance of the workers negatively (Lynn Starbuck, 2015). Thus, employers should evaluate the impact of tips on the employees attitude. A positive implication is that the servers may be motivated to provide better services to the customers. To sum up, it is vital to note that tipping is the new trend in America. Different people have different opinions regarding this trend. Tipping motivates workers to provide excellent services while discriminating other employees. In regions such as Tampa Bay, tipping has significantly improved rising from 10-20% and may develop in the future. Other areas are in the process of eliminating the trend. One of the ways of elimination is the enhanced employees wages. References Dewald, B. (2017). Service Charges and Tipping: A Case Study of the Chinese Hospitality Industry.PROCEEDINGS BOOK, 529.
